Field Operations Under the leadership of Deputy Director of School Performance; Barbara Zeile, the Field Operations team works to strengthen understanding of and communication with schools in order to foster mutual trust and respect and a shared vision and commitment. Field Operations supports the work of other units through its focused, individualized attention to academic achievement, fiscal stewardship, governance and compliance. As a result of Field Operations staff attending all board meetings and conducting periodic site visits, Field Operations helps The Governor John Engler Center for Charter Schools (the Center) to be proactive in providing oversight and support of schools. The Field Operations team helps to focus schools' efforts on the University's high standards of performance and accountability, while at the same time recognizing and promoting the diversity among our portfolio of schools.
Mr. Beaumont serves as a School Lead, providing expertise and guidance to schools on issues related to school operations, governance, general compliance and student achievement. He meets regularly with individual schools, attending board meetings, overseeing site visits and discussing each school's unique areas of success and opportunity. Through David's efforts, the Center is able to strengthen its partnership with schools and help advance the goal that all students are being prepared to succeed in college, work and life. David joined the Center in 2009, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience in program development and education. He most recently served as Senior Consultant with Gessert & Associates, a Detroit-area firm offering training in project management and process improvement to institutions of higher learning as well as private companies. He has also worked with the Wayne County Community College District as Vice Chancellor for Educational Affairs and Provost for Campus Operations. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in college student personnel guidance and counseling from Eastern Michigan University.
Ms. Lazell serves as a School Lead, providing expertise and guidance to schools on issues related to school operations, governance, general compliance and student achievement. She meets regularly with individual schools, attending board meetings, overseeing site visits and discussing each school's unique areas of success and opportunity. Through Kandy's efforts, the Center is able to strengthen its partnership with schools and help advance the goal that all students are being prepared to succeed in college, work and life. Kandy has a great deal of higher education experience, having held positions at Walsh College, Henry Ford Community College and Ferris State University before joining the Center in 2010. Her core areas of specialization include K-12 and college administration, federal and state grant compliance and budget management. She holds bachelor's degrees in political science and broadcasting from Central Michigan University, as well as a master's degree in career and technical education from Ferris State University.
Mr. Parks serves as a School Lead, providing expertise and guidance to schools on issues related to school operations, governance, general compliance and student achievement. He meets regularly with individual schools, attending board meetings, overseeing site visits and discussing each school's unique areas of success and opportunity. Through Jonathan's efforts, the Center is able to strengthen its partnership with schools and help advance the goal that all students are being prepared to succeed in college, work and life. Before joining the Center in 2011, Jonathan served as Chicago State University's Assistant Director of Student Activity and Leadership Development, and before that he worked with the U.S. Department of Education as a Grant Panel Facilitator and also at Oakland University as a Pre-College Program and GEAR UP Coordinator. Jonathan earned his bachelor's degree in communications, as well as his master's degree in public administration, from Oakland University.
Mr. Roth serves as a School Lead, providing expertise and guidance to schools on issues related to school operations, governance, general compliance and student achievement. He meets regularly with individual schools, attending board meetings, overseeing site visits and discussing each school's unique areas of success and opportunity. Through Ed's efforts, the Center is able to strengthen its partnership with schools and help advance the goal that all students are being prepared to succeed in college, work and life. Before joining the Center in 2001, Ed held various positions with the Michigan Department of Social Services from 1960 to 1995, including caseworker, investigator, Director of the Office of Inspector General and, most recently, Chief Deputy Director. He earned his bachelor's degree in police administration from Wayne State University, and he holds postgraduate degrees in criminal justice, public administration and business from Wayne State University, Central Michigan University and Macomb Community College, respectively.
Mr. Rundborg serves as a School Lead, providing expertise and guidance to schools on issues related to school operations, governance, general compliance and student achievement. He meets regularly with individual schools, attending board meetings, overseeing site visits and discussing each school's unique areas of success and opportunity. Through Jim's efforts, the Center is able to strengthen its partnership with schools and help advance the goal that all students are being prepared to succeed in college, work and life. Prior to joining the Center in 2009, Jim served as an elementary principal, a regional vice president with Mosaica Education, and held various positions with DeWitt Public Schools earlier in his career. He holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Central Michigan University and a master's degree in educational policy and administration from the University of Kansas.
Mr. Shropshire serves as a School Lead, providing expertise and guidance to schools on issues related to school operations, governance, general compliance and student achievement. He meets regularly with individual schools, attending board meetings, overseeing site visits and discussing each school's unique areas of success and opportunity. Through Chris' efforts, the Center is able to strengthen its partnership with schools and help advance the goal that all students are being prepared to succeed in college, work and life. Prior to joining the Center in 2011, Chris held positions with various charter public schools in southeast Michigan, including Dean of Students at the Academy of Warren and at the Academy of Oak Park. He also completed military service with the United States Army Reserve in 2010. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Trout serves as a School Lead, providing expertise and guidance to schools on issues related to school operations, governance, general compliance and student achievement. He meets regularly with individual schools, attending board meetings, overseeing site visits and discussing each school's unique areas of success and opportunity. Through Jonathan's efforts, the Center is able to strengthen its partnership with schools and help advance the goal that all students are being prepared to succeed in college, work and life. Jonathan has worked in the charter schools movement since 2000, when he started as a middle school technology teacher. His more than 20 years working in corporate America in management, human resources and training provided him the experience to move into the role of Director of Operations with an educational service provider. Jonathan has been the lead project manager on numerous school building and renovation projects. He holds a bachelor of science degree in education from Kent State University.
Mr. Wallington serves as a School Lead, providing expertise and guidance to schools on issues related to school operations, governance, general compliance and student achievement. He meets regularly with individual schools, attending board meetings, overseeing site visits and discussing each school's unique areas of success and opportunity. Through Jack's efforts, the Center is able to strengthen its partnership with schools and help advance the goal that all students are being prepared to succeed in college, work and life. Jack joined the Center in 2009, bringing a rich set of educational leadership experiences to the Field Operations unit. He has served as Superintendent of two public school systems in Michigan, Godfrey-Lee Public Schools and Bellaire Public Schools, and he held the Elementary Principal and Assistant Superintendent positions with Wayland Union Schools earlier in his career. He earned his bachelor's degree in education and his master's degree in educational administration from Central Michigan University.
